Brief Biography

Hi, my name is Barry Belcher and I grew  up in Edgehill GA.  Egehill is the smallest incorporated city in the State of Georgia and unofficially the US.  Coming from such a rural background, I found my self having to find something to do.  I have always been able to draw and paint.  Even in High school,  I was known as the local Artist.  All my teachers would ask me to paint murals for pageants, proms or whatever the school needed artistically.  When I was 16 our town got the official title as the smallest city in Georgia.  At the time the town had no means of displaying our great "claim to fame."  So I went to the city leaders with an idea of making decorative city limit signs displaying our statement as a community.  So the Mayor and the city council approved my idea for 3 city limit signs and one for our city hall.  The city paid for the materials and paid me $200 for my artistic labor.  After my endeavors to change our city's looks, I was appointed as mayor at the age of 18 but had to quit on the 4th day because my parents said NO. I can always say I was the youngest mayor in the smallest city with shortest term.  (TRUE STORY)  Soon after I started painting on canvas and on walls.  I worked as a cook in a restaurant for 8 years called Raley's Restaurant right outside the city.  The owner asked me to paint 6 large paintings for the walls and she wanted me to paint and sell them in the restaurant.  Since then I have been fortunate enough to continue to do what stared 8 years ago.    In January 2007 I sent my designs that I completed in one of my famous homes to HGTV Design Star and was selected as one of the top 20 contestants.
